Synopsis
In the twentieth film in the series, in 1950's Wyoming, middle-aged Indiana Jones and his friend Grey Cloud have obtained a sacred ceremonial pipe and end up in a snow-logged cabin. When Jones uncovers a soprano sax, he is reminded of his college days in 1920's Chicago, waiting tables at Colosimo's restaurant and becoming obsessed with Jazz music. When Colosimo was murdered, young Indy got caught up in the investigation together with his roommate Eliot Ness and young reporter Ernest Hemingway.

Tomorrow I'll be watching a sequel to my favorite Film of all time. So today I've decided to watch the episode of Harrison reprising his infamous role as Dr. Jones before I'll be seeing him on the big screen for the very last time.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny Countdown: "The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones: Mystery of the Blues"
This is the episode famous for featuring Harrison Ford. And that alone should put it up there as one of the best of the series.
It's so good to see him again and to hear John Williams' iconic themes for the first-ever time in the series. But thankfully, the rest of the episode is really good as well.
The first half, for me, is the highlight of this episode. Even though it doesn't have any action or adventure, like the second half has, Indy's escapades with Sidney Bechet (played absolutely brilliantly by my boy, Jeffrey Wright) are not just incredibly endearing and…

jeffrey wright's just made a habit of aiding all of cinema's great heroes - james bond, katniss everdeen, the batman, and even young indiana jones. this time with a trumpet in hand through the mysterious power of the blues. this is one of the more caper-y episodes which you love to see. plus the harrison ford cameo... just divine.

"Man, all music is folk music. You ain’t never heard no horse sing a song, have you?"- Louis Armstrong
“Mystery of the Blues” is a trip back to the nightclubs, speakeasies, and dancehalls of 1920s Chicago, where jazz legends were born and invigorated the crowds with their novel blend of all sorts of musical styles blended together in an act of rhythm and spontaneous improvisation. Which is why it’s odd that we start on a snow-covered road in Wyoming in 1950 instead. There is a car chase and gunfire. Two men duck as their pursuers fire their shotguns. One is an old Native American. The other, a grizzled, bearded adventurer, with a fedora on his head and a whip on…

Now, this was a pleasant surprise. I somehow missed the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles back in the late 80s/early 90s, so I'm catching up with them on dvd. I really didn't expect Harrison Ford to show up.

Young Indiana Jones: The Stitched Up TV Movies Ranked
It's coincidence that i'll watch Crystal Skull a bit later after this episode, but sometimes it's those kinds of coincidences that put a smile on my face.
And oh boy, does Harrison Ford give me a hell of a smile, just seeing a slightly older Indy, but still excited for adventure, I can't stop feeling some excitement, even if it's a very brief appearance.
Despite that, it's still a strong story, with the first half being more of a way for George Lucas to nerd out a bit with jazz, and Jeffrey Wright is (yet again) the best part of the whole bunch, with his conversations with Indy the best part…

The only one of these I watched, which...was okay. Nothing more, nothing less. Though it was absolutely great to see Harrison Ford as Indy again.
Also neat to see an early role by Jeffrey Wright. This confirms he's partnered with three iconic characters: Indy James Bond and next year, Batman.

Yes, it’s undeniably neat seeing 1990s-era Harrison Ford briefly back as Indy, but what a limp storyline to drop him into! Aside from Ford, the fun supporting cast (Jeffrey Wright! Frank Vincent!) is kind of all that there is to distinguish this.

This is the one where Harrison Ford turns up for about five minutes. It's nice to see him as Indy again, (pre Crystal Skull) and we get a little snippet of the real Indiana Jones theme. It's fun but really, really silly, especially the final scene with the snow and the saxophone.
The main bulk is Indy hanging around with a jazz band and Jeffrey Wright teaching Indy how to play jazz. This is also the most convincing love story in the entirety of the show. Watching Indy geek out to the band it feels like he's one step away from writing LOVE YOU on his eyelids and blinking at the band as they play.
The first story revolves around…
